The 14th International Music Theory and Analysis Conference, organized by the Italian research association Gruppo di Analisi e Teoria Musicale (GATM), in collaboration with the Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali G. Lettimi, the Sagra Musicale Malatestiana,and the Municipality of Rimini, will be held in Rimini from Thursday, 28 September, to Sunday, 1 October 2017. The Conference Committee hereby invites those interested to submit proposals related to music theory and analysis of repertoires, practices and musical experiences of any genre, period or geographic area.

In addition to the above proposals on free topics, this year the Conference intends to devote a special session to the theme Perspectives of development and innovation of theoretical-analytical studies in Italian Conservatoires. The reform law of Italian conservatories is requiring new ways of thinking about theoretical and analytical disciplines, with a strong stance towards the implementation of educational paths much more focused on the students’ cultural growth. To this aim, those interested are invited to submit proposals related to one or more of the followings aspects:

  1. Current State, purposes, and contents of music theory and analysis within the present-day teaching programmes;
  2. Experiences of educational and methodological innovations;
  3. Research experiences in music theory and analysis;
  4. Relationships of music theory and analysis with musicology, performance, and composition.

Submissions will be open until July 9, 2017.  Proposals sent after this deadline, or not complying with the submission guidelines above, will be rejected.

Authors of proposals will be informed of the outcome of their submission by email by July 30, 2017.
