XXI International Conference of Music Theory and Analysis

XXI International Conference of Music Theory and Analysis

Call for papers

The "G. Martucci" Conservatory of Salerno and the Italian Society of Music Analysis and Theory - GATM aps are hosting and organizing the XXI International Conference of Music Theory and Analysis. The conference will be held October 10-13, 2024 at the G. Martucci Conservatory of Salerno. Mixed and/or online modes of participation will be activated only in case a state of emergency is declared.

Scholars are invited to submit proposals on topics related to music theory and analysis. The conference will be open to all musical genres, historical periods and geographical areas, and proposals may be analytical, theoretical and/or empirical-experimental in nature.

Papers will be welcome that propose themes and methodological approaches that have been prominent or, conversely, neglected in recent years, with an eye towards the future. Proposals are also encouraged on the relationship between analysis and performance, particularly the relationships between performative and structural parameters, and how performance and analysis contribute to the meaning of a piece.

The conference will also offer a session dedicated to Performance Studies, with a panel discussion specifically devoted to the topic of Research in the Conservatories. Finally, the third edition of the Music High School Forum on theoretical, analytical and performance topics will take place during the Conference.

30 June 2024: deadline for the submission of proposals
