Catherine Deutsch

After completing a joint PhD in musicology at Sorbonne University and the University of Bologna in 2007, Catherine Deutsch received a postdoctoral fellowship in Gender Studies from the Institute Emilie du Châtelet. She taught at the Sorbonne from 2012 to 2021 and is now Professor at the University of Lorraine. Her research focuses on sixteenth- and seventeenth-century Italian music, especially the madrigal, and on feminist musicology and gender history. With Achille Davy-Rigaux, she supervises Epistémuse, an International Research Network dedicated to francophone musicology. She has published Carlo Gesualdo (2010), translated, with Stéphane Roth, Feminine Endings: Music, Gender, and Sexuality by Susan McClary (2015), coedited, with Caroline Giron-Panel, Pratiques musicales féminines, discours, normes, représentations (2016), and edited two books of madrigals by Giovanni de Macque (2015 and 2018). She is currently completing a book on the sixteenth-century composer Maddalena Casulana and editing a volume devoted to women in French musicology.
Dopo aver completato nel 2007 un dottorato congiunto in Musicologia all’Università della Sorbona e all’Università di Bologna, Catherine Deutsch ha ricevuto una borsa di studio post-dottorato in Studi di Genere dall’Istituto Emilie du Châtelet. Ha insegnato alla Sorbona dal 2012 al 2021 ed è ora Professore all’Università della Lorena. Le sue ricerche si concentrano sulla musica italiana del XVI e XVII secolo, in particolare il madrigale, e sulla musicologia femminista e la storia di genere. Con Achille Davy-Rigaux, dirige Epistémuse, una rete internazionale di ricerca dedicata alla musicologia francofona. Ha pubblicato Carlo Gesualdo (2010), tradotto, con Stéphane Roth, Feminine Endings: Music, Gender, and Sexuality di Susan McClary (2015), coeditato, con Caroline Giron-Panel, Pratiques musicales féminines, discours, normes, représentations (2016), e curato due libri di madrigali di Giovanni de Macque (2015 e 2018).
