Call for Papers
The "G. Martucci" Conservatory of Music of Salerno and the Italian Society for Music Analysis and Theory - GATM are organising the 22nd International Conference on Music Theory and Analysis. Scholars are invited to submit proposals on topics related to music theory and analysis, regardless of musical genre, historical period and geographical area.
Conference Dates and Venue
The Conference will be held from 2 to 5 October 2025 at the G. Martucci Conservatory of Music in Salerno, Via Paesano 2 - 84125, Salerno (SA - Italy).

Submission deadline
Scholars are invited to submit their proposal in Italian and/or English by 10 June 2025.
Presentation formats
1. Individual or multi-author paper (20 minutes plus 10 minutes discussion)
2. Pre-organised session (three to four papers, 20 minutes each plus 10 minutes discussion)
3. Recital-analysis (30 minutes, including performance and talk, plus 10 minutes discussion). This format should provide a well-balanced time and a close correlation between the theoretical-analytical part and the performative one. The performative part may include the presence of a performer other than the speaker.

Official languages
The official languages of the Conference are Italian and English. Proposals may be submitted in either official language or, optionally, in both. Similarly, presentations may be made in either language. In order to facilitate the understanding of the presentations, speakers may, if they wish, deliver their presentation in one language and prepare a translation, even partial, into the other language in electronic (slides) or printed form.
Proposal submission
(a) Individual or multi-author paper proposal
The proposal should include:
- An anonymous PDF file containing (1) the title of the proposal, (2) a text of up to 500 words, plus up to two pages of examples and figures if appropriate, (3) a bibliography of up to 5 titles, (4) five keywords
- A Word file containing an abstract of up to 300 words redacted in accordance to this template (https://drive.google.com/uc?export=download&id=1xQNTcR7k73LzINJ7OLJIYpyl8-1jQdmB). The text should be free of notes and examples, figures or tables of any kind
- A Word file containing the full name, any institutional affiliation and a short CV (maximum 150 words).
(b) Pre-organised session proposal
The proposal should be submitted by a session leader and should include as many files as there are session participants, each with the same characteristics as in (a). In addition, he/she should send:
- a Word file containing a presentation of the session as a whole ofmaximum 300 words.
(c) Lecture-recital proposal
In addition to the requirements of (a), the approximate duration of the performance should be indicated.
The proposal should be submitted via the Google Form https://forms.gle/rxqUnbBTp4QnxmPP6. Proponent will need to sign in with her/she own Gmail account if s/he has one, or if not, create one for this occasion ("Create an Account").

The conference forstudents
Students from conservatories and universities are particularly encouraged to submit their research activity on theoretical/analytical topics, stating their student status when submitting their proposal. Young scholars attending the conference to present their own paper may apply for one of the scholarships offered by the Italian Society for Music Analysis and Theory - GATM. Evaluation and notification of outcomes
Proposals will be evaluated in double-blind peer-review. Pre-organised sessions will only be confirmed if at least three of their constituent proposals are accepted. Evaluation outcomes will be notified to proponents by July 10, 2025.
Registration fees for speakers and attendees
You can register for the conference at https://www.gatm.it for a reduced fee /early-bird registration) from July 5 to July 31, 2025, and for the full fee from August 1 to August 25, 2025.
NB: In the case of multi-author proposals, registration is only compulsory for those authors who will be participating in the conference. Other authors may, if they wish, become GATMmembers in order to support and participate in the activities of the society.
As you must be a member of SIATM to participate in the conference as a speaker, the increased fee (40 € extra) includes the annual subscription to the society.
Teachers and students of the "Martucci" Conservatory are exempt from paying the participation fee.
It is possible to attend as a non-speaker for the whole duration of the conference or for individual days by paying the appropriate fee directly at the conference venue. The participation of both students and teachers of the "Martucci" Conservatory is free of charge.
